Description

1926 Double Eagle, MS66
FS-101, Tripled Die Obverse

1926 $20 Tripled Die Obverse, FS-101, MS66 NGC. Recent research by Roger Burdette determined that approximately 10% of 1926 P-Mint double eagles in all grades have the Tripled Die Obverse. It is evident in the lower-right elements of the design, especially in the date and monogram area. The surrounding rays, stars, and nearby oak leaves also show this feature. This is a lustrous and attractive Premium Gem, sharply struck with variegated lemon-gold, lilac, and fire-orange color. Remarkably few marks are visible under a loupe. Census: 16 in 66 (1 in 66+), 0 finer (12/25).
