1926-D Double Eagle, MS63
1926-D $20 MS63 PCGS. Well-struck overall, if a trifle soft
on Liberty's toes, with lovely coppery-gold patina in the recesses
that adds to the appeal of the overall satiny gold-orange sheen.
The few grade-defining abrasions are a pair of criss-crossing
shallow marks in the right obverse field and a similar line down
through the lower left on that side. The 1926-D is among the
noteworthy mintmarked Saint-Gaudens double eagle melt rarities and
genuinely scarce regardless of grade, though its circumstances have
ensured that most survivors are Mint State. Population: 54 in 63,
27 finer (11/13).
