Elusive Superb Gem 1927 Double Eagle
1927 $20 MS67 NGC. Each Philadelphia Mint double eagle issue from 1924 to 1928 is considered a common date, and they are all common in lower grades, but all are scarce or rare in Superb Gem grades. For example, NGC and PCGS have combined to certify a mere 67 examples of the 1927 double eagle in MS67, with none finer. This remarkable piece has highly lustrous lemon-yellow surfaces with satiny fields and frosty devices. Most of the design details on each side are bold, with some weakness evident on the Washington sky line. Census: 50 in 67, 0 finer (2/10).(Registry values: N4719)
