    Description

    Challenging Uncirculated 1927-S Double Eagle

1927-S $20 MS61 PCGS. A half century ago, the 1927-S Double Eagle was regarded as the fourth rarest issue in the Saint-Gaudens series, but enough examples have been repatriated from Europe since the 1970s to lower the overall rarity ranking of this issue. Nevertheless, the absence of sizeable hoards assures that the 1927-S remains scarcer than the other branch mint issues from the 1920s, with the exception of the 1920-S and extremely rare 1927-D.
Offered in the North Shore Collection is a fully lustrous golden-orange example that has average sharpness for the issue and scattered blemishes culminating in a few more noticeable marks on the left side of the reverse. Far more affordable than the occasional Select or better representative of this elusive S-mint Saint. (#9188) (Registry values: P1, N11000)
