Description

Radiant 1927-S Twenty Dollar, MS63

1927-S $20 MS63 NGC. Although it is a rare issue in its own right, the fame of the 1927-S is further increased by its association with its more-famous sibling, the 1927-D double eagle. In the case of the 1927-S, while a few more examples of the issue have been found and repatriated from overseas hoards in recent decades, it has held up well compared to some erstwhile series rarities such as the 1924-S and 1926-D.
This Select Mint State example has beautiful radiant luster emanating from yellow-gold surfaces that show just moderate abrasions consistent with the grade. The Capitol dome is softly struck, as often seen on this issue, along with Liberty's right (facing) foot and sandal. But the coin boasts much appeal throughout, and this coin would make a splendid acquisition for a fine Saint-Gaudens double eagle set. Census: 15 in 63, 28 finer (2/10).(Registry values: N7079)
