Description
Gorgeous 1928 Double Eagle, MS67
1928 $20 MS67 PCGS. The 1928, with a mintage exceeding 8.8 million pieces, is one of the most common Saint-Gaudens double eagles. Gold specialist David Akers (2008) writes that known Mint State examples number 60,000 to 80,000 coins, the latter figure comprising the PCGS/NGC Uncirculated population. Collectors will have little difficulty locating a Premium Gem specimen, as the two services have graded nearly 3,700 in this level of preservation. The certified population tops out in MS67 with only 145 coins, a number of which are likely resubmissions. Our Superb Gem offering displays gorgeous peach-gold color with mint-green accents, joined by splashes of reddish-gold on the reverse. Thick frosty luster endows both sides and a decisive strike leaves sharp definition on the design motifs. Impeccably preserved surfaces that are devoid of mentionable marks or alloy spots round out the coin's superior eye appeal. Housed in a green label holder. Population: 65 in 67, 0 finer (9/09).
