Description

Lustrous MS61 1929 Double Eagle
'Coin of the Crash'

1929 $20 MS61 PCGS. During the Roaring Twenties, far more investors were interested in paper profits than hard money -- much to their detriment, if they were still in Wall Street shares during the stunning stock market crash of October 1929. Virtually none of the more than 1.7 million double eagles struck in Philadelphia that year ever left Treasury control, and only a few hundred examples are known today -- far fewer than the number of collectors who want one. This is a more affordable example, abraded on the high points with wispy flaws in the fields but great apricot-to-gold luster. Housed in a green label holder.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 26GL, PCGS# 9190)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
