Description
1931 Double Eagle, AU Details
Important 1930s Twenty
1931 $20 -- Smoothed -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. Any double
eagle with a date in the 1930s is scarce at a minimum. Though more
than 2.9 million 1931 twenties were produced, virtually all of them
never left government control were destroyed by the Treasury later
in the decade. This is one of the few escapees, though it was
unable to avoid an unfortunate polishing (PCGS calls it
"smoothing") of its yellow-gold surfaces that show touches of
orange. A small copper spot is noted on the near wing of the
lightly worn eagle. Despite its impairments, this is a genuinely
challenging coin that is sure to find an appreciative
home.(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26GN, PCGS# 9192, Greysheet# 10153)
