    Description

NGC 1931-D MS 63. The 1931-D is one of the legendary group of late date Saints from 1929 to 1932 that are all very rare and seldom seen except when a major collection is broken up. Possibly as many as 30-35 piece are extant today in all grades, over half of which came from a "mini-hoard" of approximately 15-20 pieces. Akers believes the '31-D to be of equal overall rarity to the 1931 and 1932 issues, and is roughly equivalent to the 1930-S in condition rarity. This piece shows a few small marks in the center of the obverse (mostly) and the surfaces are frosted with a pale olive tint at the margins of each side. A rare opportunity to acquire this elusive and highly respected major rarity in the series of Saint-Gaudens twenties. Population: 8 in 63, 4 finer. Trends $23,500. (NGC ID# 26GP, PCGS# 9193)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
