Description

1924-S Saint-Gaudens, MS63
Soft, Original Mint Luster

1924-S $20 MS63 NGC. The mintage of the 1924-S Saint-Gaudens double eagle issue boasts a little over 2.9 million coins, though its survivorship has immensely dwindled over the century with just 509 examples reported by NGC. The coin displays some small marks, though they are minimal to the appeal. There are two rather prominent abrasions along the reverse rays and the sun's surface. This example displays attractive sun-gold luster in a uniform glow alongside a radiant cartwheel effect. The strike is largely pleasing with slight weakness around Liberty's upper half. The coin becomes conditionally scarce beyond the present MS63 grade, and this will be an appreciable acquisition for San Francisco collectors.
Ex: Houston Money Show Signature (Heritage, 12/2014), lot 3915; The Trifilio Family Collection / Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 9/2018), lot 3278.
