    Description

    1908-D Saint-Gaudens Twenty, MS65
Burdette Type 3, Long Rays, With Motto

1908-D $20 Motto MS65 PCGS. The refinements made to the Saint-Gaudens design by Charles Barber are apparent on the 1908-D Motto twenties, resulting in improved quality of strike but a departure from the original high-relief design. The design changes resulted in more efficient Mint operations at the expense of some aesthetic appeal, but since the coins were largely confined to banking institutions and foreign trade, the public paid little heed. This lustrous Motto twenty is well-struck with greenish and orange accents among the devices. PCGS has seen just 35 numerically finer examples (9/16).
