Description

1837 No Stars, Small Date Dime, MS66
Colorful and CAC Endorsed
Ex: Pogue

1837 10C No Stars, Small Date, F-102, R.3, MS66 PCGS. CAC. A halo of peach highlights the portrait, and is illuminated by rose around the portrait. The fields contain a delectable array of soft sky-blue, sage-green, and sunrise-yellow. The reverse contains peach inside the wreath, and the peripheral regions contain concentric circles of grape, tropical-turquoise, and rose-russet. Slight weakness exists on the high points of the obverse drapery and hair as well as the reverse leaves, though the rims are universally sharp. The superlative coloration and excellent luster creates wonderful eye appeal, which garnered it a CAC sticker.

The Small Date design was produced second, after the more common Large Date design. By this time, collecting interest had been satiated, further contributing to the scarcity of this issue in high grade, which is twice that of the Large Date. This example sits near the pinnacle of this limited population, with only a single MS66+ outranking it. Population: 6 in 66 (1 in 66+), 0 finer. CAC: 4 in 66, 0 finer (12/25).
