Description

1838 No Drapery Dime, MS67
Superb Type Candidate

1838 10C No Drapery, Large Stars, F-113, R.4, MS67 NGC. The Large Stars, or, more accurately, "normal-sized stars." Fortin-113 is one of two varieties that share this reverse which features an inchworm-like die flaw below the N in ONE. The scarcity of the No Drapery type in high grade heightens the importance of this Superb Gem 1838 example. The strike is bold throughout the stars, wreath, and Liberty's figure. Close study with a lens fails to reveal any noteworthy flaws beneath the blended olive-gray and amber-gold toning. Census: 10 in 67 (2 in 67+), 2 finer (8/15).
