1838 F-108a Dime, MS66
'Partial Drapery'
Guide Book Variety

1838 10C Partial Drapery, F-108a, R.4, MS66 PCGS. CAC. Drapery beneath Liberty's raised elbow was introduced on the Seated dime series in 1840. Those pieces dated 1837 to 1839 always lack drapery beneath the elbow. But in 1838, Fortin-108 dies clashed severely, creating the F-108a variety. The upright from the E in DIME appears on the field below the elbow, which upon cursory evaluation resembles the drapery seen on post-1840 Seated dimes. The present high grade example is sharply struck and displays blended dove-gray, apple-green, and golden-brown toning. The coruscating surfaces are undisturbed.
