Early Die State

1838 10C Small Stars, Doubled Die Reverse, F-101, FS-801, MS65 PCGS. CAC. This early die state example has a crack through stars 1 to 6 that has not extended down to the date. The mintage of 1838 Small Stars half dimes is unknown with estimates ranging from 30,000 (Walter Breen) to 200,000 (Gerry Fortin). This Gem, housed in a PCGS Generation 3.0 holder, features brilliant blue, lilac and gold toning over satiny luster. PCGS Population: 11 in 65, 1 finer (3/26).
