1839 Dime, Finest Certified, MS68 ★
Short-Lived No Drapery Subtype
1839 10C No Drapery MS68 ★ NGC. This is the single finest
NGC-graded 1839 dime. NGC has certified eight pieces at the MS68
level, but only the present example has garnered a Star
designation. PCGS has certified two coins as MS68, and neither
major service has graded any above MS68 (6/13). The surfaces are
highly lustrous on this Superb Gem and generally present as bright
and untoned, but closer examination reveals hints of delicate tan
toning. Each side is immaculately preserved. This is a superlative
representative of the No Drapery subtype, produced only in 1839 and
1840.Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4-5/2009), lot 110.(Registry values: N1)
