The Finest Certified 1839-O No Drapery Dime, Greer-102

1839-O 10C No Drapery MS68 NGC. Large O. Repunched Mintmark. Greer-102. The undermintmark is readily evident under a loupe, there is a bisecting reverse die crack through the word DIME. The obverse does not display the die crack from Liberty's head through stars 8-12 that Greer describes, but we do note that star 8 is boldly repunched. This is a "very scarce" variety according to Greer, the present example being undoubtedly the finest known representative. As the only MS68 representative of this issue known to NGC and PCGS (7/01), this coin is also quite possibly the finest known 1839-O No Drapery Seated Dime of any die marriage. A fully original example, the obverse is toned in lovely antique-copper colors with blushes of gold and blue iridescence intermixed throughout. The reverse is equally as attractive with lovely crimson, dove-gray, and electric-blue colors. Boldly impressed in all focal areas with no mentionable distractions.
From the Gulf Coast Collection. (NGC ID# 23BS, PCGS# 4572)
