Description

1846 Dime, Toned AU50
Low-Mintage Issue

1846 10C AU50 PCGS. The 1846 dime is the lowest-mintage Stars Obverse Seated dime (31,300 circulation strikes), considerably less than its more famous 1844 relative, the "Little Orphan Annie." The 1846 is rare in XF and finer, and Mint State pieces are virtually unobtainable. Grayish-lavender and russet toning runs over the remarkably clean surfaces of this AU50 example. The design elements are well-defined, including Liberty's head, a feature that is often weak. Population: 5 in 50, 11 finer (1/14).
From the collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation.(Registry values: N1793)
