Description

Desirable 1846 Seated Dime, AU53

1846 10C AU53 NGC. Defects below the crossbar of the 4 and in the upper loop of the 6 appear on both business strikes and proofs, despite being coined from different obverse dies. The 1846 dimes are the only pre-1858 coins where high-grade business strikes are rarer than proofs. Only 31,300 business strikes were minted, and few of those have survived in grades above Very Fine. This lovely AU example has light silvery-gray surfaces with bright luster illuminating protected areas. Census: 2 in 53, 2 finer (11/10).(Registry values: N1793)
