Description

Important Near-Mint 1846 Dime

1846 10C AU58 NGC. With its mintage of just 31,300 pieces, the 1846 has the lowest production of any Stars on Obverse regular dime issue. While other issues, such as the "Little Orphan Annie" 1844, are more popularly known, series enthusiasts recognize the substantial challenge posed by the beguiling 1846 dime.
This well struck example offers soft, pleasing luster beneath ample olive, ocean-blue, turquoise, and amethyst shadings. Marks are few, with only a handful of trifling flaws noted on each side, and only a trace of friction affects the high points. One of just two AU58 examples certified by NGC, with none finer at that service (5/08).(Registry values: N1793)
