Extremely Rare 1846 Select Dime
One of Two Finest Certified

1846 10C MS63 PCGS. CAC. The low-mintage 1846 Stars Obverse Seated dime (31,300 pieces) is scarce in all grades, and rare in XF and above. Mint State examples are extremely rare. Brian Greer (1992) assigns them an R.7 rarity rating in his The Complete Guide to Liberty Seated Dimes (4 to 12 known). PCGS and NGC have graded a mere three Uncirculated specimens, and the MS63 offering in the present lot is one of the two finest certified!
A medley of silver-gray and electric-blue patina is joined by a splash of lavender, most noticeably on the reverse. An attentive strike leaves strong definition on the design features, except for minor softness in Liberty's hair, which is typical for the issue. A few minute, grade defining marks do not detract.
