Description

1849 Dime, Toned Gem
Fortin-104 With Apparent 8 Underdigit

1849 10C MS65 NGC. Fortin 104. This variety shows what appears to be the trace of an 8 underdigit beneath the 9, and repunching on the 8 and 4. As a date, the 1849 is challenging, especially in high grades. This high-grade survivor shows diagonal die striations in the fields on each side. The lustrous surfaces are covered with blue-gray and rose toning, and the strike is well brought up but not quite full. Census: 6 in 65, 3 finer (7/11).(Registry values: N2998)
