Description

Rare 1849-O Dime, MS62

1849-O 10C MS62 PCGS. Small O Mintmark. Despite its mintage of 300,000 pieces, the 1849-O dime is a scarce date, especially in Extremely Fine or better. Brian Greer (1992) assigns an R.7 rarity rating in Mint State, which is more or less in line with the 25 Uncirculated examples certified by PCGS and NGC, taking resubmissions into account. This bright, essentially untoned MS62 specimen is much better struck than is typical for the issue. Greer indicates that Liberty's head and the reverse leaves are almost always weak, but these areas are relatively strong on this piece. Minor softness is noted in the centrils of the stars along the right border. Some minor handling marks in the obverse fields help to define the grade. Population: 2 in 62, 6 finer (7/07).(Registry values: N2998)
