1853 No Arrows Dime, MS67
Heavy Obverse Die Clashing

1853 10C No Arrows MS67 NGC. Fortin-101a. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green and the Eric P. Newman Collection. A Top 100 Seated dime variety. The obverse exhibits heavy clash marks near the drapery and on both sides of Liberty's head. The mint luster is exceptional and brightly shines through the multiple layers of purple, lime-green, and blue toning seen over each side. The strike details are pinpoint-sharp throughout. This is an exemplary dime struck before the silver reduction mandated by the Mint Act of February 21, 1853. Neil Carothers wrote a masterful book that told the story of the passage of the Act in his 1930 Fractional Money. Census: 5 in 67 (2 in 67 ), 4 finer (5/14).(Registry values: N1)
