Description
1854-O Arrows Dime, MS66
Conditionally Rare
1854-O 10C Arrows MS66 PCGS. CAC. Fortin-101. Bluish-gray
and cobalt-blue patination assumes a mottled appearance on the
reverse. The design elements are well-defined, save for softness in
the bowknot and parts of the adjacent ribbon. There are no
significant marks. Both sides exhibit nice eye appeal,
appropriately endorsed by CAC.Variety: Fortin-101, R.3. The left foot of the 1 digit is incomplete, while the flag of the 1 is quite thin. There is a well-defined space between the 54 digits in the date. The large O mintmark is centered under the left stand of the M in DIME.
Population Data (3/15): PCGS reports two in MS66 (one MS66+) and none finer. NGC shows six in MS66 and three finer -- all MS67, including one with the Star designation.
Heritage Commentary: While the 1854-O Arrows can be located with little trouble in lower grades, it is scarce in XF, AU, and the lower levels of Mint State, and rare in Gem and finer.
Provenance: Purchased from David Lawrence Rare Coins (2/2010).(Registry values: N2998)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 239B, PCGS# 4606, Greysheet# 4100)
Weight: 2.49 grams
Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
