Description

1859 Stars Obverse Dime, MS68
Finest Graded at NGC

1859 10C F-107, R.3, MS68★ NGC. The 1859 has a relatively low mintage for a Philadelphia issue. In fact, every other Philly date from the 1850s has a production of more than a million pieces. Tiny die chips near a majority of the stars provide identifiers for Fortin-107, along with the high date position. The present example is arguably the finest certified, since it is the sole MS68 at NGC to attain a Star designation. The semiprooflike surfaces are close to brilliant. The strike is exacting, and close scrutiny shows only trivial imperfections. Census: 2 in 68 (1 in 68 ), 0 finer (2/25).
