    1861-S Dime, Well-Struck MS64
    Rare in Mint Condition

1861-S 10C MS64 PCGS. CAC. The 1861-S dime, from a relatively low mintage of 172,500 pieces, is scarce in circulated grades and rare in mint condition. PCGS and NGC have certified only 71 coins in all grades, and each service has seen eight Mint State examples apiece.

The silver-gray surfaces of this near-Gem display pleasing luster and show occasional splashes of light brown color. The design elements are well-struck throughout, including Liberty's head and breasts and the bowknot, elements that are typically weak. A few minute marks are consistent with the grade. Population: 1 in 64, 2 finer (4/14).(Registry values: N2998)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 239G, PCGS# 4634)

With the superb catalog, a masterwork prepared by Mark Borckhardt, the sale was destined to meet all of my expectations; that it did, and then some. Be assured that I would highly recommend Heritage Auctions to any of my associates contemplating the sale
