Description

    Finest Certified 1866-S Dime, MS66

1866-S 10C MS66 NGC. Fortin variety 101 with a vertical die crack across Liberty's body to the shield, with a weakly defined mintmark. Often times, circulated examples have the mintmark nearly invisible, and they are often mistaken for 1866 Philadelphia dimes. However, the date positions of 1866 and 1866-S dimes are entirely different, and will always reveal the true variety. Of course, at the MS66 grade level it just doesn't matter which Mint produced the coin.
The ribbon bow on this piece is weak, but all other details are strong. the surfaces are highly lustrous with pearlescent toning on each side. Census: 2 in 66, 0 finer (7/10).
