Description

Elusive 1871-S Seated Dime, MS65

1871-S 10C MS65 PCGS Secure. CAC. The 1 and 8 are minutely repunched on Fortin-101, and this is the most available of three 1871-S dime varieties. This frosty Gem has lustrous and brilliant silver surfaces with splashes of subtle gold and iridescent toning on each side. All of the design elements are boldly rendered. Despite a rather high mintage of 320,000 coins, examples of this date are seldom encountered in Mint State grades, and Gem specimens are extremely rare. Population: 2 in 65, 1 finer (8/10).
