Description

1873 Arrows Dime, MS65
Lustrous, Near-Brilliant Surfaces

1873 10C Arrows, F-112, R.4, MS65 PCGS. Light apricot toning drapes the borders of this lustrous, mostly brilliant type coin. The otherwise crisp strike shows trivial softness on Liberty's head and the upper left wheat sheaf. Lovely eye appeal despite a few minor field marks.

Variety: Fortin-112. An interesting die scratch through the lower right portion of the wreath easily identifies the variety.

Population Data (9/15): This is one of 15 Gems at PCGS (two in MS65+). NGC shows 17 examples in the same grade, and both services report five finer submissions apiece.

Heritage Commentary: The left and right arrows flanking the date signify an insignificant weight increase intended to make the specifications conform to the metric system. Fortin-112 is rated R.4, scarcer than most other varieties for the date, and should command a premium between 50% and 100%.

Provenance: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2007), lot 2584.

Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 538313, Base PCGS# 4665)

Weight: 2.49 grams

Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
