Description

Desirable Choice VF 1873-CC Arrows Dime

1873-CC 10C Arrows VF35 PCGS. CAC. Fortin-101, High R.5 for the grade. A later die state with a thin die break--only observed on a few other specimens--through the right side of the corn cob and curving right where it terminates at the rim. The diagnostic die break through the mintmark is present.
The gunmetal-gray example offered here displays the highest degree of originality and is completely free of distractions, which is uncommon for the issue. The rims are well defined, and the level of detail is reminiscent of a coin grading finer. Interestingly, this piece shows bold strike doubling throughout the wreath. Of the 90 1873-CC With Arrows dimes certified as of (4/09) by NGC and PCGS combined, only 14 coins have been graded better than VF, making this near-XF example a special opportunity for the Seated dime connoisseur.(Registry values: N2998)
