Description

Key 1874-CC Arrows Seated Dime, VF25

1874-CC 10C Arrows VF25 PCGS. The 1874-CC Seated dime is a classic rarity in the collection, with a tiny production of only 10,817 coins, all from one die pair. Those two dies may be identified by diagnostic keys. On the obverse the arrows, which were entered onto the coinage dies by hand, slant up noticeably on both sides of the date. On the reverse nearly all known examples show a die break from the ribbon through the middle of the last C in the mintmark and to the first C. The first S in STATES is broken.
Brian Greer's series reference says of the 1874-CC:

"The unquestioned key to the series (excluding the uncollectible 1873-CC No Arrows). Rare in any grade, and probably a full R6 in problem-free condition. Very few mint state pieces exist."

Rusty Goe, in The Mint on Carson Street, adds this: "Throughout the decades the annual rare coin auction circuit has historically offered one 1874-CC dime per year, and some years not even one." This VF25 coin should neatly fill the bill for some spirited bidder. The surfaces are medium gray overall with brighter accents over the high points. On the obverse a small scrape runs through the upper shield and Liberty's left (facing) thigh, with another in the right field. A couple of dark toning spots appear near the rims. The reverse is problem-free.(Registry values: N4719)
