1876-CC Dime, Fortin-133, MS64
Repunched Mintmark Variety
1876-CC 10C MS64 PCGS. CAC. F-133. Vibrant luster glows
beneath iridescent green, yellow, blue, and purple patina. This
near-Gem is well-struck and minimally marked. Without a doubt, the
outstanding eye appeal and originality of this Carson City coin
make it ideal for type purposes.Variety: Fortin-133, Type One Reverse. The easiest pickup point for this High R.6 variety is the repunched right C in the mintmark, showing extra metal that Fortin describes as hornlike in appearance. There is also doubling on the denomination.
Population Data (9/15): PCGS reports 64 in this grade and 59 finer submissions.
Heritage Commentary: This variety, which commands a suggested premium ranging from 150% to 300%, was discovered by Harry Smith, who published his findings in the July 2010 issue of the Gobrecht Journal. The plate coin on SeatedDimeVarieties.com is graded AU50 by PCGS; this may be the finest example of the variety extant.
