Description

1878-CC Dime, Premium Gem
Lightly Toned Condition Rarity

1878-CC 10C MS66 PCGS. CAC. This wonderfully preserved Carson City dime displays semireflective fields bathed in pale silver with a dusting of palest green-gold at the margins. Here is an excellent example of the final dime coinage of this historic Western branch mint. This is Breen's Type 1, showing the E in ONE nearly touching the wreath. Both Liberty and the reverse wreath are sharply defined and enriched by abundant mint frost. This coin is a condition rarity, ranking as one of the finest survivors of the 200,000 pieces struck. After this date, Carson City production was focused on silver dollars, notably the newly adopted Morgan pieces and some gold coinage, to the exclusion of silver minor coins. Population: 3 in 66, 1 finer (4/12).(Registry values: N1)
