Description

Deeply Toned Fortin-104 1879 Seated Dime, MS67

1879 10C MS67 NGC. Greer-102, Fortin-104. Proof Die, Repunched Date. The repunching on the date is obvious at the base of the 1 and within the loop of the 8. It takes little imagination to perceive that this coin was struck from a proof die, since the surfaces of this coin are fully prooflike and show considerable die polishing. The head of Liberty, however, is softly struck, also diagnostic of this die pairing. Both sides of this business strike, from the tiny original mintage of 14,000 pieces, sport deep plum, indigo, and gold toning. Census: 29 in 67, 3 finer (3/08).(Registry values: N1)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23AS, PCGS# 4687, Greysheet# 4075)

Weight: 2.49 grams
