Description

1879 Dime, MS67 Prooflike
Repunched Date, F-104a

1879 10C MS67 Prooflike NGC. Fortin-104a, R.4. A scarce prooflike example of Fortin-104a, with repunching of the 1 and 8 of the date, and less obviously on the 9. The fields are remarkably prooflike on both sides, with attractive iridescent border toning in shades of blue, amber-gold, and lemon-yellow. The strike is incomplete on the obverse high points, with softness at Liberty's head and foot, although the reverse is bold except for slight weaknesses at the reverse bow knot and ribbons. Seldom seen in this Superb Gem prooflike condition, the sole such coin identified at NGC.
