Description

1879 Dime, MS68 Prooflike
Outstanding Visual Appeal

1879 10C MS68 ★ Prooflike NGC. Fortin-105, R.4. The date is repunched, as seen on the flag of the 1, inside the lower loop of the 8, and inside and below the 9. On the reverse, a long die crack surrounds the wreath from 10 to 5 o'clock, and several parallel die lines are seen in the leaves at 9 o'clock. This example is clearly one of the first strikes from a fresh die pair, as evidenced by deep mirroring in the fields, and ranks as the single finest-certified Prooflike example (7/14). A thin ring of lemon-gold toning surrounds the frost-white devices, while the surface preservation is exceptional.
