Description
1884-S Seated Dime, MS66
Few Known So Fine
1884-S 10C F-101, R.4, MS66 PCGS. CAC. During the 1880s,
most branch mint resources were devoted to the production of
millions of standard silver dollars as mandated by the
Bland-Allison Act of 1878. Almost no quarters or halves were struck
in San Francisco during this period (the exception being the 1888-S
quarter), and only limited emissions of dimes were paid out from
that facility. In 1884, S-mint dime coinage amounted to little more
than 564,000 pieces. This issue is a rarity today in Uncirculated
condition and is almost never seen at the Premium Gem level. The
present piece is remarkable. Liberty's figure and the wreath show
excellent definition, set amid frosty luster toned in
champagne-gray and aquamarine hues. There are no bothersome
abrasions, and the eye appeal is outstanding. Population: 3 in 66,
1 finer (12/15).Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 593526, Base PCGS# 4693)
Weight: 2.49 grams
Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
