Description

1865 Seated Dime, MS67+
Fortin-101a, Early Die State

1865 10C Repunched Date, F-101a, R.5, MS67+ PCGS. CAC. Gerry Fortin identifies two varieties of 1865 Seated dimes, one used for business strikes and the other for proofs. Evidence of repunching is seen between the 8 and 6 in the date on the die pair used for the 10,000 circulation strike pieces, including this Superb Gem. The repunching provides quick and easy identification of the manufacturing method, which is especially important for prooflike Mint State pieces. This example has vibrant blue, russet, and gold toning over its brilliant and frosty silver surfaces, creating sensational eye appeal. Population: 5 in 67 (2 in 67+), 0 finer. CAC: 6 in 67, 0 finer (12/18).
