Borderline Uncirculated 1840 Dollar

1840 $1 AU58 NGC. The Liberty Seated dollar was introduced in 1840. The Gobrecht dollar obverse was retained, while the reverse discarded the flying eagle in favor of the "sandwich board" eagle in use on silver coins since 1807. A dusky example with blended silver-gray and almond-gold toning. Sharply struck with moderately abraded fields and a thin vertical mark through the cheek. Census: 38 in 58, 31 finer (7/07).(Registry values: N991)
