Description

1842 Seated Dollar, MS64
Struck From Polished Dies

1842 $1 MS64 NGC. OC-3, R.2. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/b. Heavy die polish lines fill the fields on both sides, apparently to minimize die clashing visible below Liberty's elbow. Accordingly, left-side stars are slightly sharper than the right-side ones, although Liberty's portrait is sharply defined. Brilliant surfaces show brief areas of tan-gold toning at the rims. The 1842 is seldom seen finer than this near-Gem example. Census: 20 in 64 (3 in 64 ), 0 finer (3/20).(Registry values: N4719)
