Description

1842 Seated Dollar, MS64
Among the Finest Certified

1842 $1 MS64 NGC. The 1842 is regarded as one of the more plentiful Seated dollar issues from this decade, but it is nonetheless scarce in Mint State. Choice examples, such as the present coin, are rarely encountered and none are known in Gem condition. This piece is toned in medium golden-gray hues with faint lilac specks here and there. The fields show lovely semiprooflike mirroring without any significant abrasions. The upper edge of the eagle's left (facing) wing shows the usual weakness, but the strike is otherwise well-executed. A few faint roller marks appear on Liberty's lap, as struck, and the fields show faint die striae which contribute to the reflectivity. Census: 18 in 64 (3 in 64 ), 0 finer (6/15).(Registry values: N4719)
