Description

1842 Dollar, Sharply Struck MS64
Among the Finest Certified

1842 $1 MS64 PCGS. The 1842 silver dollar had a modest mintage of 184,618 circulation strikes. Examples are plentiful in all grades from Very Fine to About Uncirculated. Diligent searching will even result in the location of Mint State examples through MS63. Near-Gems are rare, and higher-grade certified specimens are unknown.

Both sides of this essentially untoned MS64 example display partially prooflike fields that highlight the satiny devices when the coin is rotated slightly under a light source. The design elements are sharply struck, enhancing even more the coin's overall eye appeal. A few scattered minute marks preclude Gem classification. Population: 18 in 64 (1 in 64+), 0 finer (11/13).(Registry values: N4719)
