Description

Select Mint State 1843 Seated Dollar
Original Surfaces

1843 $1 MS63 NGC. Despite its status as the most easily obtainable Seated dollar from the 1840s in circulated grades, the 1843 (165,100 pieces produced) is anything but common in Mint State. In fact, this issue is a significant rarity in grades above the MS63 level of preservation. The present example displays dusky tan-gray obverse toning that deepens somewhat around the peripheries. The reverse is patinated in dappled cobalt-blue and slate-gray colors. Both sides display the usually seen semireflective fields, a common trait on Seated dollars of the era. Well struck for the type with a few obverse abrasions that are rather well concealed by the toning scheme. Census: 10 in 63, 6 finer (10/12).
