1846-O Dollar, AU58
First New Orleans Dollar
1846-O $1 AU58 NGC. OC-1, R.2. The first New Orleans Seated
dollar issue is surprisingly difficult to locate in high grades.
Osburn and Cushing suggest the new dollars were well-received and
must have seen considerable circulation in the South. Mint State
examples prove exceedingly rare. This AU58 dollar presents a fine
balance for those who weigh technical quality against
affordability. The left stars are bold, as are Liberty's shield and
foot support. The eagle enjoys strong feather detail and shows
visible veins on the leaves. Olive-gray tones cover each side.
