Description
Subtly Toned Near-Gem 1849 Seated Dollar
Rare in Any Mint State Grade
1849 $1 MS64 NGC. A very rare Seated dollar issue in any
Mint State grade, the 1849 is far more so at the near-Gem level of
the present specimen. The mintage was only 62,000 pieces, a small
number in absolute terms even if nominal by the standards of the
series. This near-Gem is one of 13 MS64 coins certified at NGC,
with two finer (9/10). Only a few faint marks, mostly in the left
obverse field, appear to preclude an even finer grade. The
well-struck surfaces are subtle silver-pink, with some gold and
lilac highlights appearing under a light. The wire rim seen around
both sides is typical for the issue.(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24YL, PCGS# 6936, Greysheet# 7199)
