    Description

Deeply Toned Mint State 1850 Seated Dollar

1850 $1 MS61 NGC. A scant 7,500 pieces were struck, which makes the 1850 among the scarcest No Motto issues. With its bullion value above face in 1850, large-scale coinage of the Seated dollar would have been an exercise in futility, since profiteers would simply gather and melt them. This deeply toned Mint State example features aqua-blue, lavender, and gold patina. The strike is crisp, and the only noticeable mark is a wispy vertical luster graze above Liberty's foot. Certified in a prior generation holder. Census: 13 in 61, 12 finer (10/06).(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 24YM, PCGS# 6937)
