    Description

    1852 Seated Dollar, MS62
    1,100 Coins Struck, Series Key

1852 $1 MS62 NGC. OC-1, Low R.5. Seated dollar production fell to 1,100 coins in 1852, a token production that never intended to meet any large-scale commercial demand. In fact, there was no such demand, with gold dollars taking the place of their silver counterparts during the early years of the Gold Rush, when the value of silver relative to gold drove those coins out of the channels of commerce. Osburn and Cushing estimate that 65 business strikes survive, all from a single die pair that shows vertical shield stripes that extend up into the horizontals.

This Mint State rarity showcases bright, essentially untoned surfaces with the field reflectivity collectors expect of a high-grade Seated dollar, especially one with such a low mintage. Strike definition is crisp everywhere except Liberty's head, the pileus, and stars 8 and 9. Small scattered abrasions explain the MS62 assessment. Census: 10 in 62, 2 finer (7/19).

The outcome of the auction far exceeded my best hopes and would not likely have been as successful with out your sound advice on where to present the coin and how best to set the reserve. Throughout the process your availability , support and knowledge were exceptional.
