Description

1853 Silver Dollar, MS63
Popular 'Chin Whiskers' Variety

1853 $1 Chin Whiskers, OC-1, R.2, MS63 NGC. A Top 30 Variety, due to the "chin whiskers" die lines below Liberty's jaw. Osburn-Cushing Die State b/b, lightly clashed. A desirable Select example of a scarce Philadelphia emission. Only 46,110 pieces were struck for commerce, and Osburn-Cushing estimate about 1,000 survivors. Relatively few are as nice as the present lustrous coin, which boasts few marks and excellent eye appeal. Light golden-brown toning clings to the margins. The strike is good save for the M in AMERICA and the first S in STATES, which are struck opposite the corners of Liberty's rock. NGC Census: 16 in 63, 32 finer (12/25).
