    Description

Elusive Mint State 1855 Seated Dollar
    Deep Copper-Hued Patina

1855 $1 MS61 PCGS. CAC. Deep copper hues compete against rim accents of olive-green on this Mint State 1855 Seated dollar. The mintage was a tiny 26,000 pieces for the date, yet the issue is even rarer than that number implies, as most were exported to the Orient and later melted. Mint State examples are elusive as such. This MS61 piece is one of three such as PCGS, which has seen 18 finer. The MS62 level is where most of the Mint State pieces reside at PCGS, although there are a handful in MS63 and MS64. A few scattered ticks and wispy scrapes are in concert with the grade, but this piece is quite sharply struck and offers bold eye appeal.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 24YU, PCGS# 6943)
